A Community of Friends

The Friendship Center is a day program dedicated to fostering an inclusive community for adults living with severe and persistent mental illness and in poverty. A significant portion of our participants live in personal care homes without family or caregivers which challenges our friends’ access to essentials like food, healthcare, financial resources, and community.

At The Friendship Center, we believe in the power of belonging and purpose for every person. Here, individuals find acceptance, support, and a shared experience of unconditional love.

Our inclusive community celebrates the inherent value of each person, and mutual acceptance and support are the cornerstones of our collective experience. Join us as we embrace diversity and resilience together.

Our Programs

Eight to ten participants work as paid gardeners. Our garden director helps to teach the gardeners plant knowledge and leadership skills all while earning an hourly wage.

We have four volunteer Certified Peer Specialists who run various support groups throughout the week. In 2023, we provided our community with 23 no-cost eye glasses and 53 flu shots.

The arts program offers a supportive studio environment that fosters creativity, self-direction, and mutual encouragement. Artists can sell their own work for 75% of the profit.
